To Walter's way of thinking there are two kinds of magic. One is the kind associated with geeks, weird dice, cards, and cosplay. The other is a relaxing show in Las Vegas. When he is influenced to enter the Bar, he learns there is one more kind - real magic.
Real magic comes complete with fairies, elves, sorcerers, and, of course, dragons. It also includes thirteens variations of the earth as he knows it. Magic exists in all these realms but is mostly hidden from humans. This would amount to no more than an interesting phenomenon if it weren't for the fact that Walter has been marked for death by someone in one of those other realms.
